Peterborough, Ontario’s Historic McLean Berry Farm

Situated on scenic Chemong Lake in Peterborough, Ontario, Upper James Manor offers guests unparalleled recreational opportunities, including a sandy private beach that is perfect for swimming and boating. Upper James Manor guests also enjoy convenient access to a number of area museums and cultural attractions, including the McLean Berry Farm.

Originally a maple syrup homestead in the mid-1800s, the farm became one the area’s first strawberry producers in the 1950s and has been focused on berry production ever since. In 1991, the McLean family purchased the farm and expanded agricultural activities to include a wide variety of vegetables, such as pumpkins and fall raspberries. The farm hosts a number of well-attended events each year, including the summer Strawberry Festival, which involves family-friendly berry picking, barbecues, and wagon rides. Held each March, McLean’s Maplefest offers pancake breakfasts with fresh syrup and a variety of local musical performers. Children enjoy activities such as the bouncy castle, while adults can attend informative demonstrations of crafts such as spinning wool.
